これからのジャーナリズムを考えていくためのジャーナリズム概論

【講義の目的・内容】

本講義の目的は、ジャーナリズム論の基礎を学ぶことである。これまでのジャーナリズム研究を概観し、ジャーナリズムが現代社会でいかなる役割を果たしているのか、ジャーナリズムの基本的考え方と基礎知識を身につける。そこでは具体的に、社会・政治・技術的な変化が今日のジャーナリズムにいかなる影響を与えているのか学習する。ジャーナリズムの基本的な考え方や重要な課題をー通り学習したあとは、社会的・政治的な問題、自然災害、歴史的な問題など、意見の分かれる時事問題や困難なテーマについて報道機関やジャーナリストなどがどのように対応すべきか考えるための素養を身につける。

なお、本講義でいう 「ジャーナリズム」とは、時事問題に関する報道や論説などの専門的な活動やニュースを含 み、時事問題に関して事実やデータを下に解釈を加え多数の人に伝えるコミュニケーション活動またはそのプロセスを指す。Twitterの自称ジャーナリストのつぶやきはジャーナリズムか？それも考えつつ、ジャーナリズムではない ものは何かも同時に検討していく。そのうえで、ジャーナリズムの主要な特徴や問題点に焦点を当てながら、歴史にも目を向ける。本講義では、新聞や雑誌などの紙媒体、あるいはラジオやテレビなどの既存のメディアだけに焦点をあてるだけでははなく、新しい形態のジャーナリズムにも目を向け、ジャーナリズムヘの理解を深める。

民主制政治を基本とする社会を維持していくためには、ジャーナリズムが中心的な役割を果たすとされている。そうであるならば、ジャーナリストを希望する場合でも、そうでない場合でも、現代社会や近代文化を理解しようとする人にとって、ジャーナリズム論を学ぶことは重要である。本授業を受けることで、現在ジャーナリズムはいかなる問題を抱えているのか、このような普遍的で難しい問題に関しても主体的に考える姿勢を身に着け、自分の意見を論理的に説明できるようになってもらいたい。また、ジャーナリズムが自分たちの所属する社会においていかなる役割を果たしているのか理解し、自分の考えや視点にジャーナリズムがどのような影響を与えているのか意識できるようにしてもらう。

【学修到達目標】

1. 民主制を掲げる社会の中で、ジャーナリズムが果たす役割を理解し、わかりやすく説明できるようになる。また、ジャーナリズムの基本理念と基礎知識を身につける

2.ジャーナリズム研究（論）で何が問題となっているか課題を理解する。その上で、社会問題を検証する際に必要な情報や知識を収集し、その情報を活用して、論理的に意見が言えるようになる。

3.日々の時事ニュースや報道が、自分の考えや視点にいかにして影響をあたえるのか意識できるようになる

4.自分の身の回りの問題だけではなく，ジャーナリズムをめぐる問題をいかに捉え， どう個人が行動していくか判断できるようになる。

5.本講義で得た知識を応用し、自ら課題を見つけ主体的に学習を進めていく習慣を身につける。

【指導方法】

本授業では、担当教員による講義及びレスポンを利用した受講者の主体的な学習活動を組み合わせて授業を進める予定である。身近な話題も取り上げ、現代社会でジャーナリズムがいかなる役割を果たしているのか実感できるようにする。テーマ上、背景知識の説明など講義中心となるが、理解を深めて貰うために，適宜映像音声資料を利用し、状況に応じてグループ作業などを行う。 可能であれば、前半の45分～60分の講義のあとに、ディスカッション などのグループ作業を行う形ですすめたい。

本講義だけでは限界があるため、課題を出す場合もある。ただし、受講者数によっては、講義の進め方を変更す る。課題の有無にかかわらず、分からない箇所を調べたりするなど、自分から探求する姿勢を持つこと。講義中にわからないことなどがあれば、先生の話しを切っても構わないので質問すること。授業中に質問できなくても問題はないが、わからないままにしないこと。何が分からないか分からず混乱している場合も確認すること。積極的な姿勢を求める。授業中に適宜担当教員が質問することもある。全く反応がない状況がおきれば、その状況を実際の社会に置き換えて考えてみてもらうようにする学習課題を出す。なお、クラスメート同士で協力する姿勢を持ってほしい。授業は教員だけでは上手くすすまない。有意義な授業となるように自分から学ぶ姿勢でいること。積極性や授業態度，授業内での様子と課題の内容あわせて総合的に評価する。

【事前・事後学修】

本演習科目は、授業外課題など、授業以外での十分な学習時間を要する。大学設置基準では、演習科目については、

2単位につき週4時間授業外での学習が必要とされている。本演習では最低週4時間の授業外学習時間が必要となる。

事前学修

本講義に関連した資料および事前スライドを配布するので、予習をした上で授業に臨む。また、時事問題に関する話題も取り扱うため、ニュースを中心に日頃から情報を集めるようにすること。必要であれば背景知識に関した情報を収集する。海外報道、メディアや情報をテーマにした記事、社説を読み、要約を書く課題を出す可能性がある(1.5時間～2時間）

事後学修

本講義で学んだことを復習し、必要であれば授業で指定された参考資料や参考動画を使用してさらなる学習をすすめる。理解が十分でない点を明らかにし、次回の授業で質問できるよう準備する(1.5時間～2時間）。

授業外学習を求める大変きつい授業である。また、単に座ってるだけの講義ではなく、適宜リアクションを求めるめんどくさい授業でもある。真摯な姿勢で参加すること。担当教員も学習しやすい環境を可能な範囲で整える。態度が極端に悪い場合、他の学習者の妨げになるので退出を求める場合がある。全ての授業への参加が前提である。楽をしたい人、単位を浮かせたい人にとっては不満の残る講義となる。

対話を求める講義である。先生が質問を投げかけたり、他の学生がコメントをした場合は適切な反応を求める。他人に反応しない、無言、無視、舌打ちなどをした場合はコミュニケーションを拒否したと捉え出席とみなさない。また出席をすればいいわけではなく、実際に講義に参加すること。何もせず非論理的且つ非合理的なクレームをつけた場合は、信頼関係がないと判断し、お互いに相談時間を設けた上で、教員は相応の対応を取る。

指示の意図が理解できない、何をしているのかわからない、何がわからないかもわからず混乱しているという場合は必ず担当教員に確認をとること。何も言わなければ対応が難しい。それを避けるために、必要に応じた対話と確認作業を求める。

【Course Purpose and Description】

The course will provide an overview of journalism research and the principles and foundational idea of what role journalism plays in contemporary society. In this course, you will learn how social, political, and technological changes are affecting journalism today. You will also learn the basic concepts and essential issues of journalism and assess how news organizations should deal with current affairs and controversial social and political issues, natural disasters, and historical adversity

The term “journalism” used in this lecture refers to the whole process of communicating to a large number of people with interpretations based on facts and data about current affairs, including professional news reporting and editorializing on current issues. While focusing on the main idea and issues of journalism, we will examine what journalism is “not.” We will also look at its history as well to understand the concept of journalism. In this course, we will not only focus on the existing media such as newspapers and magazines, radio, and television but also look at new forms of」ournalism to deepen our understanding of news media

Journalism plays a central role in maintaining a society based on democracy. That being said, studying journalism is vital for anyone who wants to understand modern society and modern culture, whether they wish to become a journalist or not. By taking this course, I hope that you will learn to think independently about the problems “journalism” faces today and you will be able to logically explain their thoughts on challenging issues. I also want you to understand what role journalism plays in the society you belong to and how journalism influences your ideas and viewpoints

【Instructional Methods】

This course will be conducted through a combination of lectures and group discussions. I will share my experience as a researcher to help you learn. Familiar topics will be covered so that you can realize what role journalism plays in modern society. You also need to read or watch the news every day, especially on the international news/media and information related news/news on disasters etc. We will have discussions on current affairs from the perspective of journalism studies

Due to the nature of this course, I will mainly give lectures, including explanations of background knowledge, but in order to deepen our understanding, I will use audio-visual materials, and group work will be conducted as needed. If possible, I would like to have a 45 to 60-minute lecture in the first half, followed by group discussions. Since there is a limitation to what I can do in the classroom alone, I may give you many assignments. Depending on the number of students, I may adjust the course loads.

【Self-study before/after classes】

This course requires sufficient study time outside of class, including assignments outside of class. According to the Standards for the Establishment of Universities（大学設置基準in Japan), you should spend four hours of study outside of class per week for two credits. This course requires a minimum of 4 hours of study outside of class per week.

Before

Materials and slides related to this lecture will be distributed in advance, so you are expected to prepare for the class beforehand. Since we will be dealing with current affairs, you are encouraged to gather information on a regular basis, especially from the news. If necessary, spend extra hours researching and studying to get background knowledge. There is a possibility of assignments to read and write summaries of foreign news reports, articles, and editorials on media and information (l.5-2 hours)

Review what you have learned in this class, and if necessary, use the reference materials to further your study. Identify any points you did not fully understand and prepare to ask questions in the next class (about 2 hours)

This is a very demanding course that requires extra learning time. There will be many assignments and homework.

Regular attendance and class participation are essential for being successful in this course. This 1s an intensive course. You should not miss the classes. However, I will support your learning as much as possible if you are serious about taking this course. If your learning attitude is extremely negative, you may be asked to leave the class because you may disturb other learners．

Those who want easy credits（楽単）will be dissatisfied with this course. For your note, you might have a hard time following this class if you are not used to interactive styles of instructions. If you have a hard time communicating effectively with others, please consult with me. I will help you out even if you are not a good communicator. I wasn’t a good communicator in the past. When I ask questions or other students make comments during a class, you are expected to respond appropriately. If you do not respond to others, ignore all comments, or tsk-tsking（舌打ち）, it will be considered a refusal to communicate and will not be counted as attendance. Also, attending is not enough, you must actually participate in each class. If you do nothing and complain, I will assume that there is no trust relationship and I will react to that accordingly.

References and audio-visual materials will be distributed on Toyonetace and an online site for this course. Please check them periodically.

If you do not understand the instructions, you get lost or get confused, be sure to check with me. If you don’t say anything, it will be difficult for me to help you. To avoid this, I really ask you to communicate with me a lot．

I will tell you other rules and details related to the course on the first day of the class and distributed them on Toyonetace and other online sites after the second week.
